Water Quality: Surveys / Assessment / Modelling

The investigation of all aspects of water quality, profound assessment of data, experienced evaluation in reports and surveys and the derivation of management strategies for water resources are some of the main focuses of our work. Our expertise is based on a broad academic qualification of our staff including biology, ecology, limnology, water management, hydrology, hydrochemistry, special taxonomy of aquatic organisms, microbiology, ecotoxicology, environmental and water-related legislation and of course on many years of work within the environmental consulting sector.

  • Assessment of the status of surface waters according to the European Water Framework Directive (WFD)
  • Classification of stagnant and running waters according to different classification systems (e.g. trophic state indices, saprobic index, halobic index, hydromorphological indices, etc.)
  • Analysis of aquatic ecosystems and biogeochemical balances
  • Investigation of causes and effects of different aspects of water pollution (e.g. sewage effluent, eutrophication, impacts of mining, acidification, etc.)
  • Elaboration of management strategies for different uses of surface waters (drinking water, fisheries, recreational use)
  • Decision support for water resources management by application of existing water quality models (e.g. dynamic ecological model SALMO [Benndorf, 1979])
  • Assessment of water pollution accidents, hazard analysis
  • Development and realization of monitoring programmes for surface waters
  • Scientific service for research and development for water authorities, industry and society
